what is ju jitsu?

ju jitsu is self-defence, not a sport (but see below). if you take it up, you'll learn how to defend yourself against single or multiple attackers by blocking punches, kicks & knife attacks, escaping from strangles & chokes and other holds, hitting back with accurate & effective punches, kicks, 'chops', etc., throwing attackers by various means, applying locks to arms, legs, etc., restraining attackers from making further attacks, using pressure and nerve points to subdue them, using a kubotan and improvised weapons. ju jitsu is the oldest japanese martial art, from which others such as aikido, kendo etc. and some forms of karate are derived.
